hark

It’s like time has appeared to me as an empty canvas. It’s huge, and wide, but not too big that I can’t see where it ends. Yet large enough to make me wonder, ‘where to start?’

I go cheap cheap

Once more, it was summer. Now this being a Melbourne summer, it was not something you entirely looked forward to, not unless you come from climes where the sun only cameos. Here's what happens in the months beginning November in this desert country.

Semester ends. Friends balik kampung. People leave for vacations. Employers still won't hire you.

'But I have a previous experience!
'No.
'I can work full time!
'No
'I'll work for peanuts.
'No.
'I won't use Mohamad as my name.
'No.

Hai. Le Rejecion is no fun, but it's something you have to live with.

But how?

I was pushing aside the froth of my soy mocha with my tounge waiting for bro A (bukan nama sebenar) to respond. I had propositioned him earlier, in terms as seductively as society would permit, to embark on a business venture together.
T-shirts. Think about it. We buy them. We go around markets. We sell them. Cash out, cash in. Simple.
'Don't knowla, doesn't sound reasonable
'Before you say no, think about it. We don't need that much capital upfront. We could get them for cheap in KL. And even if we sell them for the same sticker price, we'd still be making a profit.
'But how are we going to get the t-shirts here?
'I'm still working on that.

Rose-coloured water

Everything seen through rose-tinted glasses will seem beautiful. And choosing to read only media that offer rose-tinted commentary and opinions will make the beloved free from all sin.
Mountains of evidence and bonfires of misery will fail to overwhelm the promise of happiness that lives in the breast of the lover.

All vices become necessary, and all opponents are sworn enemies, to be obliterated at any cost.
The lover's days and nights then turns into a continuous effort to prove one's love, anticipating the day it will be rewarded.

With what? A pipe dream? An unrealistic expectation?

Think!

Why do let love rob you of your intellect?

potato chicken leek

dunno why but felt like banging on the keyboard tonight. Probably nonsense so best click away now.

Last chance.

There is something calming in watching steam filter out from under a pot's lid. Especially when it's a glass lid, the rhythm of vapour, condensation and liquid repeated over and over again. Time ceases to be units of seconds or minutes or hours, but you know its time to turn the chicken when steam starts to spill out from the sides of the lid.

Cooking like ironing turns out to be quite the philosophical task. If ironing teaches you that any crease like any problem in this world can be straightened out with patience and pressure, cooking, on the other hand, reminds the person that though things might not seem to fit outright, but with enough persuasion, you may end up with something beautiful. Different ingredients with different properties end up contributing their different qualities to create a wonderful new taste, colour, smell, look.

Good food however cannot be rushed, patience must always be observed, no matter how hungry, how much the stomach growls for food. The fire should remain at medium. The chicken needs more time. The fish's almost done. The tomato can't take it anymore.

Of course you could just get instant something from the store, but then the metaphor ceases to function. There is no instant life from the local grocer. But you can get the different ingredients, you may already have some. And everyone has a recipe to share.

Whoa. Good thing dishes are just a painful task.
