if you're ever in the mood for some Malay

This is something a little bit more left-field than the usual left-field stuff I usually do.

It's a website called SudahlaBro.com (SLB for short), a Malay language site that MAM Media hopes to build into a lifestyle, current affairs portal with really good content. Like Playboy, but without the girls.

It's early days yet, and so far we've only come up with a column called 'Suara Bro' (I know), in which I write about things, life, stuff in general.

Suara Bro, along with everything else on SLB is published every Friday morning, so keep an eye out folks.

You can read the previous ones here.

emo-ammo

You could say that a lot of the things we do, they're not grounded on thought but run almost exclusively on emotions.

Trends and fashions, for example. Sometimes the trend appears rational, sometimes not, but when a trend blows up and gets adopted by the masses, you can be sure that its success owes a lot to emotions: to fit in with peers, to be seen as a trend-setter, etc; these feelings act as influential motivators.

For people with agendas to push, to be vulcan, that is to act exclusively on intellect and rationality, is to behave in a manner alien to the people of earth.

As the cliche goes, you cannot force someone to love you, so you attempt persuasion. To love something, is to have a feeling inside of you, burning from your core across your entire being, is very different from knowing the benefits and advantages of an action.

In other words, it is not something you can debate with your mind and superior intellect, but instead is something that needs to be inspired, either by an act, or speech, or presence.

And when the audience has strong inertia away from your intended outcome, you would need a clear ringing stimulus if you were to have the slightest chance of getting your preferred responses.

Read list

I have a daily routine: I open up google reader and skim through sites and blogs to get an idea of what's going on today.
It used to be that there were only news sites, blogs, and nasihat hal-ehwal ugama in my feed. That was thenlah.

As you can see someone's wading into the deep end of the hipster pool. Thanks ddreamer.

Drama fits aside, google reader and my pretentious subscription list actually help a lot in giving ideas for projects.

Arty blogs show you new way of doing things.
Entertainment blogs keep you on the pulse of what's popular at the moment, and a good guide to how to package ideas.
Topical blogs (politics, religion, science, etc.) gives you angles and stories that you can ponder on.

And of course, friends' blogs. Those really save me time.
The more updated they are the less I need to spend time with them to find out what's going on in their lives.

Joke joke.

What sites help your thinking process?
